Its 6:05, you sit down with your family for dinner and the phone rings. Call display shows up as a private name and you can’t even recognize the area code. Your telemarketing “spidey senses” are tingling! You decide to have a little fun and take the call and play along.
You guessed it right! It’s someone selling duct cleaning… You listen to their sales pitch, ask them a few intentionally dumb questions and then tell them you aren’t interested and politely ask to be removed from their list.
Does this sound familiar? How many times have you had a telemarketer call you?
Of all the advertising and sales methods out there, I would have to say that telemarketing is one of the most controversial and disputed methods for sales.
But is there an opportunity for you? That depends. It depends on what you are looking to accomplish, what type of business you are in and the company you hire (or if you decide to do it yourself). So you need to ask yourself “Is my business the right fit for telemarketing?!”. There is no doubt telemarketing works. Companies wouldn’t be spending the time, energy and money into telemarketing for years if it wasn’t producing profitable results. With the creation of the “Do Not Call List” it has deterred a lot of the smaller businesses from doing telemarketing, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be doing it. This could actually work in your favor!
To start, it’s important that your business reputation will not be tarnished by the use of telemarketing. To make sure this doesn’t happen, make sure you hire a quality telemarketing company that is extremely service oriented, pays attention to details and knows how to handle clients. By hiring the RIGHT company, it can totally increase your sales at an affordable rate.
For some industries, telemarketing is a necessary form of sales. If you decide that you want to go down the route of using telemarketing, here are a few things to look out for. Ensure the company you hire screens all employees because you want to make sure they don’t just hire any Joe Blow off the street. Also the customer service and sales training their employees get will play a critical role in how successful their efforts are going to be.
If you are thinking about jumping into the telemarketing world, I would start by doing an online search to see some reviews of different companies and ask for references. Get them to show you actual sales numbers and see if they have any experience in your field. Try and Google “Telemarketing” and you will be shocked at how much valuable information you can find on the subject. But remember to keep it all in perspective. There are always going to be people who are 100% for it and those who are 100% against it, so take the information with a grain of salt.
Conclusion
It may not be the right business move for everyone, but if you are ready to take your business to the next level and want to leverage sales, telemarketing could be a viable solution for you. Good luck with your research and happy profit growth!
